2a. Body appears somewhat laterally compressed in cross-section; brownish to orangishyellow, with four to five well demarcated ocelli, including one at the edge of the caudal peduncle and caudal fin; pectoral fins uniformly coloured, without dark brown concentric rings or small light coloured spots (in life) (Sumatra, Borneo).

b. Body distinctly rounded in cross-section; brownish, appears mottled, with longitudinal row of black botches which may merge into a longitudinal stripe; caudal fin/caudal peduncle area without clear black ocellus; pectoral fins with dark brown concentric rings, with scattered small light coloured spots (in life).
